5 Wellness Favorites

Happy New Year and new DECADE! I am so thankful to be back on track and back on a schedule in my life. I have absolutely missed my routine. We try to keep things steady around here during the holidays but something about school being in session seems to really keep things moving around here. 2019 was an awesome year in so many ways. I hit so many goals and I am looking forward to going further in 2020. I hit a few minor setbacks during Christmas but I am happy I was able to enjoy myself with absolutely no guilt or remorse. I definitely want to get away from thinking foods are forbidden or bad and just realize that all things are permissible although they are not all beneficial so moderation is key. There are so many parties and reasons to indulge which I say, GO FOR IT but after so many times of saying go for it, I begin to feel sluggish and my joints hurt. I am grateful to be detoxing and working on my health and wellness goals this year. I have been SO happy with the progress I have made and I am confident that I will surpass last year's goals and hit new ones if I keep up what I have been doing. Here are a few things I am loving:

1.This AWESOME Journal under $7
I love to journal my prayer, ideas, budgets and plans to declutter my home. I am so excited about this journal I found that will help me track my wellness goals over the next 90 days. Love that the time period is 90 days and will fit in perfectly with my 90 day Sprint that I mention in this post.

I will be journaling my workouts, what I ate and if I took my supplements. I found that a lot of times I would think I was working out a lot more than I was but here would be days I would forget or get too busy. By writing this down as I go, I am able to see exactly how much I work out, if I am feeding my muscles enough healthy fuel and if I am actually remembering to take my supplements. There would be days I had tremendous energy that I can track to getting in my BCAA. I excited to have purchased the 90 day journal below which is a simple way of tracking all of the above and is a surprisingly cheap option.

2.Camo Compression Leggings. I am legit in love with these! They are high waisted which = AMAZING and really appreciate that they don't roll down. Just perfect, I pretty much live in them :DI will say the compression is very minor if you are used to Spanx and especially the leather Spanx (those are my all time favs). Ido really love these because I don't worry about messing them up and can clean and play w the kids in them. I want them in the dark gray as well...

3. BCAA& Prenatal vitamins. I notice a tremendous difference when I take Branch Chain Amino Acids paired with my prenatal vitamin.

Branch Chain Amino Acids are made up of leucine, isoleucine and valine.Your muscles are comprised these proteins which must be consumed through food or supplements as your body does not produce them. Body builders take the because the do give energy during a workout which is why I believe they are so helpful for busy women. We need that kind of energy all day! A lot of women are low in iron which causes fatigue. Taking the prenatal helps replenish that iron and your energy levels will improve. I found myself dragging in the middle of the afternoon but when I started taking these two supplements but energy levels improved immensely.

4. Cranwater or any infused water.

I know I sound like a broken record but I LOVE the benefits of cranwater or liquid chlorophyl. Somehow the addition makes me drink more water so I love that it keeps me well hydrated. When your body is well hydrated you have less hunger signals sent your brain and your systems function as they are meant to. Your endocrine system performs better, which regulates hormones and your digestive system which eliminates toxins. The cranberry strengthens connective tissues in your body to keep you looking younger and eliminates the appearance of cellulite.
I also enjoy Kevita Water kefir, Kombucha and Apple Cider Vinegar, all of which have detoxification benefits.

5. Rebounder. Have you read about this and always wanted to try it but have never taking the "leap"? Start today and by the end of the month you will be feeling AMAZING! The rebounder has been deemed the best form of exercise by NASA. It is easy on the joints, jars the lymphatic system to effectively stir up toxins which are flushed out when you drink your water after and during your workout. I talk about this ALL the time on my blog because I am so passionate about it. It truly works better for me than anything else I have tried and I have tried a LOT of things. I was a person trainer for the Texas State University fitness program and have been asked to return to my position multiple times but I just cannot do that while homeschooling my kids. I choose to share my knowledge for free here on my blog with all of you!

Happy Friday to you! So excited to have been back on my blogging streak for a full year. I’ve blogged on and off since 2009 but I’ve finally been able to keep a steady stream of posts coming throughout 2019. I’m very happy with what I’ve learned and most important, with the friends I’ve made. I definitely feel the Lord has put this desire in my heart as a way I can fulfill the Great Commission and go into all the world and tell the Good News as Mark 16:15 says. And I don’t even have to leave my living room! I hope you find joy, hope and peace when you visit my little corner of the Internet.

I put up my Christmas decor yesterday and my home is back to it’s regular state. I love the calming effect of a neutral pallet.

I know this time of year is when people begin organizing their homes so for my favorites today I wanted to share what has helped me on my organizing journey. My home is far from where I want it to be but these items below have been a tremendous help.

1. Dresser Organizer

These little guys have changed my life for the better! I cannot tell you how many times my little ones would be looking for a shirt at the bottom of a drawer and they would undo all my hard work of meticulously folding their clothes in a matter of seconds to try and grab that one little shirt. This has made it easier for them to find their clothes and when they do, they can pull out one neatly rolled shirt and none of the others are disturbed. It's genius and I am so grateful to the person who invented these! A HIGHLY recommended fav around here.

2. Cabinet Organizer

This is an aesthetically pleasing shelf that fits inside my cabinets and helps me hold extra coffee cups. We have SO many mugs but I do not want to get rid of them because we always use them when we have company and that is often. I have found this shelf helps tremendously in storing the cups we don't use often on a daily basis and it is extremely sturdy. It's also great for plates so I may be purchasing another.

3. Drawer Dividers

Another absolute fav in our home organization would be these drawer dividers. These look like the inside of my drawers and add a tremendous amount of peace when opening my serving utensils drawer. I have three of them to help divide wood, plastic and metal. Make sure you measure your drawer and order the correct size. I LOVE these!

4. Shoe Organizer

I like that this organizer has three shelves and a space at the bottom. This holds a TON of shoes and has a place underneath for flip flops and smaller shoes. It really keeps my shoe fetish looking pretty and less obvious ha!

5. Mesh Bags for Laundry

This was my husbands idea...We like to throw all of our socks into one mesh bag per person so that when we do the laundry all of the socks stay together and do not get lost. I do not match our socks half the time so this really keeps them together easily and helps everyone find their own pairs quickly.

That's it for my favorites, onto five goals for the new year...

1. Be Debt Free (again). Hawaii and Christmas really did a number on us and I am confident and determined to make sure we are debt free by the end of 2020

2. Finish our third rental property. I talked about our cabin in this post (click here). We already have a renter who is ready to get into our cabin and her lease is up in November. I think that gives us plenty of time to add a laundry room and fence the area.

3. Completely declutter our entire home. After going through all of the items we had stored since our big move almost five years ago, our home has gotten pretty cluttered. Add Christmas to the mix and I am seeing little piles everywhere. I am ready for the peace of less so I am prayerful and ready to do our final declutter. I will be sharing this journey on this blog and on my instagram.

4. Save x amount of dollars. My husband and I have determined an amount that we want to save by 2020. Not ready to share that w anyone else but I am determined to work hard to attain that goal.

5. Finish reading through the Bible, start again and be halfway through by this time next year. If you have not read the Bible all the way through, I cannot recommend it enough. I'm working on my fifth time through the Bible and I am excited to start again. The Old Testament is my favorite which surprised me. I have found so many hidden treasures and my heart has been forever changed. I love how God's character is shown through the stories and His unchanging, everlasting lovingkindness is shown throughout the pages. It truly is life changing.

Vision of 2020 : Setting Goals For the New Year

1. Begin with end in mind...What do you want to look back on at this time next year? What do you hope to say, "Wow, I did that!" about next year at this time?

I am SO grateful that when I look back at this year I can say, "Wow, we built this house and have two places rented this year!" Next year at this time I am hoping to have one more house rented. We have our little cabin that needs to be finished and last night we had a dear friend ask if she could rent it. Of course we ae excited to get another person we know love and trust in one of our rentals.

2. Commit your ways to the Lord and He will establish your plans. Ask yourself what your motives are. Are they pure and upright? If you ask anything according to the Lord's will then you already have what you ask of Him.

3. Create a plan. How will you get to you end goal? What are the steps you can take? For example, if you want to organize your kids clothes, you will need to take a quick inventory of what you have and what you need. Find a system that you think will work best. We like drawer organizers and rolling the clothes up and placing them in each little cube. It is helpful when pulling out certain shirts or pants so all the others do not get messed up. I will go into more detail on this at a later date. Maybe you want to eat healthier, take note of what you need to eliminate and create a meal plan with snacks as well.

4. Stay focused. Create a visual so you can keep your goals in front of your face every day. It could be a vision board or simply an index card with your goal written down. Just make sure you have something in front of you every day so you can remind yourself what you are working towards.

5. Start today. Do something today to help you take massive action towards you goal.

Commit your ways to the Lord and He will establish your plans.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Remember these two things as we embark on this New Year. As you write your resolutions, may our motives be pure & upright and may we rely on wisdom and strength from above.

Many are the plans of a man’s heart, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will prevail. ccording tonHis will, you already have what you ask. Pray. Ask the Lord for guidance and do all in love and for the GLORY of God.

Who do you want to be at the end of 2020? Make decisions starting TODAY as if you were that person already. Do you want to be debt free? Make decisions as if you already were debt free, you wouldn’t want to be in more debt and you’d want to save so make those very decisions TODAY! Do you want an organized and clean home? Every day, wake up and make that happen. Then, don’t do things to UNDO that goal. If you had an organized home, you wouldn’t buy stuff you don’t need, you wouldn’t throw clothes in a pile and you wouldn’t pile stuff in a junk drawer. Don’t do that now!

Albondigas (Meatball) Soup Recipe

Sometimes I post things like this just so I won't forget about it. I really love this tasty soup and it is SO simple and easy to make. It's also delicious and healthy, perfect fo the winter months after Christmas when you are wanting to eat clean and fresh but you need something soothing and warm.

Super simple soup recipe that you can make during cold and flu season.

Very soothing, nourishing and healing.

Albondigas actually means meatball in Spanish. This soup can be paired w chips n salsa and maybe a dollop of guacamole on the side.

For the broth

Fill up a large pot w water

3 sticks of celery, diced

1 onion, chopped

1/2 bag of snow peas sliced into small pieces

1 can diced tomatoes

1 tsp minced garlic

Garlic salt and Season salt to taste

(Next time I make this I am going to try making a purée of 3 roasted tomatoes and 1 whole onion w 3 cloves garlic to add to the broth).

Add 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar right before serving

For the meatballs

1 lb ground turkey

1 bag cooked brown rice

1 tsp minced garlic

Handful of finely chopped mint leaves or cilantro (optional)

2 eggs

Garlic salt to taste

Mix well and roll into balls (I use a Tbsp.) and drop raw meatballs into boiling soup broth.

Simmer for 30 minutes. That's it! So simple yet a delicious, quick and healing soup.

⭐️5 Friday Favorites and Vision of 2020 ⭐️

Today is the day after Christmas and I am snuggled on my love seat eating Christmas cookies and drinking coffee. We have so much to be thankful for. It was a wonderful Christmas. I am probably the most tired I have ever been the day after Christmas. There was just so much to do this year. I am so very thankful but so happy to be resting and to have absolutely nothing to do today.

We are keeping our Christmas decor up until the 1st so I plan to keep celebrating Christmas today but with a more focused theme. We are going to watch It's a Wonderful Life, The Star, The Nativity and we will have to YouTube Nester, The Long Eared Christmas Donkey. I have four loads of laundry to fold but now that I have more kids' drawers organized I actually find this to be a more enjoyable task and especially if I am able to relax and watch Christmas movies. We do have one more Christmas to host on Saturday.

My five favorites this week are easy:

1. Definitely the time we spent having our breakfast and daily devotions. Normally we do this as part of our homeschool routine but since my husband was home he was able to lead us. He read the Christmas story out of Luke and we asked focused questions to get the kids to truly grasp the meaning if Christmas.

2. Santa's Ranch. My husband came home from work one day and asked if we had any plans for the evening. We didn't so he said, "Let's get in the car and head to Santa's Ranch!" Santa's Ranch is a beautiful drive through Christmas light display that is located between San Marcos and New Braunfels. We absolutely LOVE this tradition. We all hopped in the van quickly but not before I grabbed the egg nog and 6 cups to enjoy on our ride. We listened to Christmas music and marveled at the magical display. Such a fun night.

3. Christmas Food! I made three turkeys this year (for the recipe and brining method I used, click here). I will say that these turkeys were my best ones yet. I am very happy with the way they turned out and my guests loved them as well. I love green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, dressing, and sweet potatoes. I am going to write a full post about how to prepare this meal for my daughters to refer to so look for that in the next few weeks.

4. Campfires. When my dad is around, we have campfires. It's one of my favorite things. I love to sit around the campfire and listen to my dad and Nathan talk. My stepmom was here as well and we enjoyed the time together around the campfire as well. Speaking of fire...

5. Wood burning stove. I never had a wood burning stove growing up but I absolutely LOVE the one Nathan installed in our previous farmhouse. It kept us so toasty and we never had to run the heat because the warmth of the stove permeated the entire house! Nathan and his brother set the stove in place on Christmas Day. Nate painted it black and I am SO in love with the look. I'm elated to have a cozy fire in it once the weather gets cold enough here in Texas (probably around January). A wood burning stove is different from a traditional fireplace because the heat is contained therefore it heats the home more efficiently. With a fireplace most of the heat escapes through the chimney. It only took one season of having a wood burning stove to convince me that I never wanted to go back to the traditional fireplace. I love the added bonus of keeping a kettle on top for hot water at all times.

How to Make Christmas Fun When You Are Worn Out

This Christmas has been a wonderful time for our family. We are so thankful to FINALLY be in our home that we have worked so hard for. It is definitely better than I imagined. It is crunch time though and I still have so much to do as a host for two Christmas dinners this year. My house seems to get pretty messy pretty quickly which is to be expected with four kids who are home most of the time.

The thing is, I don't want to miss Christmas with them because I am stressed and trying to make everything perfect. I don't want to stress anyone else out and make them not enjoy this blessed time of year because of a momma that is too busy.

The joy of Christmas is for everyone, even tired mommas. That is the beauty of the true meaning if Christmas.

One of my favorite parts of Christmas story is the end, after the shepherds had come to worship and they left to glorify the Lord. Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. I love that so much. She was quiet and contemplative. She thought about the wonders of that night often. Mary was a resilient woman. I think that has to be one of her most interesting qualities. She didn't need a perfect place to have her baby. She didn't need the perfect life. I believe she treasured what she had and was peaceful and contented.

Today is Christmas Eve and I have a very long to do list but I want to make sure I am peaceful and content. I hope to focus on the joy of Christ's birth and create a warm atmosphere in my home. I do want to add in some meaningful and fun activities for my kids to enjoy the wonder of Christmas. I want to take part in them as well. You may think that you don't have any time to sit and decorate a cookie but you do. It may take five minutes but it is a memory that will last a lifetime and bond you to your children.

As I do Christmas this year I will be careful to be resilient and that things don't have to be perfect for them to be wonderful. I want my kids to enjoy the wonder of Christmas today so I made a list...
Things they will remember:

A smiling momma

The wonderful smells of Christmas...turkey roasting, candles burning, wassail warming, cookies baking.

The sounds of Christmas...the festive music, the Christmas movies, the stories of Christmas fun in the past.

The activities of Christmas...the gingerbread house making, the cookie baking, the present wrapping, the hot cocoa sipping.

Things they won't remember:

If the house was clean.

If they all had the exact number of presents.

If the cookies came from a mix.

As I go throughout this day, this Christmas Eve, I want my children to be happy. I want them to remember why we celebrate Christmas. I want their home to filled with joy and peace. I want the sounds and smells of this Christmas to permeate their minds and memories for years to come.

I am going to tackle my to do list early and hopefully get most of it accomplished before they wake up so we can focus on the fun and true blessings of Christmas. But if I don't get it all done, I am going to purposefully choose joy. I will have list of Christmas movies to play in the background while I cook and I will have my little elves wrapping presents and decorating cookies. I am praying I can point them to Jesus as we celebrate His birth.

☕️ 5 CHRISTmas Favs, Cozy Cocoa Recipes & Last Minute Gift Ideas

Christmas is next week, y'all! I am so excited! I wish we could have three more weeks of celebrating though. I love squeezing all of the fun advent activities into our days. I will keep up the baking and fun projects but it will not quite be the same. Here are a few Christmas Favs for ya...

1. Josh Garrels Christmas Album. Go here for the full album on YouTube. It's definitely different but so beautiful & relaxing, perfect for a quiet morning. I've mentioned how much I enjoy Josh Garrels before so when he released his Christmas album a few years ago we bought it and have loved it every year since. This is one of my favorites.

2. Cozy Cocoa Days.

I LOVE a Cozy Cocoa party...Everybody wears their cute Christmas pajammies and we set out our bar with our triple crock pot full of a delicious variety of flavored hot chocolates.

I also have wassail in a kettle for those who prefer a healthier option. I put out fun toppings like whipped cream, toffee chips, mini chocolate chips, and of course marshmallows.

My three fav flavors are Mint White Chocolate, Almond Milk and Honey Mocha and the classic Creamy Hot Cocoa.

Mint White Chocolate
For the recipe click here
(to make this vegan friendly simply replace honey w sugar), I would triple this recipe.

Almond Milk and Honey Mocha
6 cups almond milk
6 Tbsps. raw honey
3 Tbsp. coconut oil
3 Tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 Tsp. pure mint extract
(to make this vegan friendly, replace honey w sugar)
Mix well and simmer for an hour or two.

Creamy Hot Cocoa Legit, the BEST Hot Chocolate EVER, my kids said so :)
6 cups whole milk
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 Tsp. vanilla
2 cups chocolate chips (you could do half dark and half milk or all milk or all dark depending on how intense you want your flavor)Mix well and simmer for two hours.
Add mini marshmallows 15 minutes before serving so they get melty. Spoon into cups and add more mini marshmallows on top. *butter beer variation: replace the chocolate chips w butterscotch chips, add 3 Tbsp. butter and use whipped cream drizzled w caramel as a topping.

I like to whip my ingredients using this blender in the crock pot. I bought this immersion blender in 2015 and it's STILL going strong!

3. Christmas Cookie Decorating.

My kids won this at our youth Christmas White Elephant gift exchange. These aren't quite as tasty as the ones we make but they are certainly cute!I enjoy making assorted shapes and decorating sugar cookies that taste divine.

5. Last Favorite is Christ Centered Christmas Activities

One of my favorite things about Christmas is how easy it is to find crafts that point to Jesus. We have made baby Jesus ornaments, cross ornaments, Names of Christ Signs, Names of Christ Paper chains, three wise men pictures and the list goes on.

It's always important for us to teach the children young how to see Jesus is the True meaning of Christmas. We find Bible verses and crafts that coincide with those verses or sometimes vice versa. The most important thing is that we are doing something together that solidifies what is truly important, the most perfect Gift, Jesus.

I hope my favorites give you some fun ideas to celebrate with your family.
Now onto last minute gift ideas...

Perfect for your UPS driver! I got mine the big one because he always goes above and beyond for us! I filled it with two oranges and a stack of homemade chocolate chip cookies. Make sure you add a little bag of cookies for his helper, too!

Yesssss, this gorgeous, thick, high quality sweater is UNDER $10! I have it in this color and its perfect w flares and booties or skinny jeans and OTK boots. I wear mine as a boatneck and get many compliments on it. I was pleasantly surprised at the thick and comfy fabric. Really a screaming deal. The navy one is only a few dollars more and I just purchased it.

Fun gifts to have on hand for a white elephant gift or last minute gift for a child. Add a fluffy blanket for a fun gift for your neighbor.

Unique gifts
I would love this lovely bird fountain to sit outside between our chairs on our porch. I love the tranquil sound of water and would enjoy sitting in my chair listening to the peaceful sounds of water trickling.

I am trying to think of unique yet useful gifts this year and I always love giving gift baskets w a theme. How beautiful would this vinegar and oil set be in a gift basket w an elite balsamic vinegar and lovely olive oil, a rosemary plant and a fresh loaf of sourdough bread?

Another cute gift idea is a homemade batch of loose leaf tea mix (I like red raspberry mixed w edible lavender). Add the tea balls (under $4 for two!) and this gorgeous mug ( just under $8) that has a fav Scripture of mine (I've given these out as gifts twice).

Have you already finished up your Christmas shopping. I'm nowhere near close but I am not stressing. I have the hard ones taken care of ;)I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy spending time with your loved ones. Please remember to be gentle on yourself, you don't have to feel bad if you cannot make every festive function you are invited to. It's ok to take some time to rest, refresh, recover and give yourself some space. I find that I need to take a few days so I don't let my home get disorganized and I can take the time to reflect on my blessings and make sure I am not getting flustered. I want to remain gentle and loving in my actions towards others and I find if I am too busy, I become frazzled easily. I hope you are filled with joy and peace this Christmas. We have had an amazing week full of festivities and fun. The week started off Sunday with the little girls in their Christmas program at church. The kids had their performances at school, Braden read a paper about Compassion International, The older two went to an amazing worship service at the Wildlife Ranch in Austin and had a snowball fight and hot chocolate bar and s'mores after. We went to our favorite assisted living center and played our tin whistles songs and sang Christmas hymns yesterday. It's just been amazing. I am exhausted though ha! I need some rest so we are headed out for a getaway this weekend.

1. My favorite festive tops.

Wassail Recipe:

Find a large container or pot and pour in equal parts
Apple Juice
Cranberry Juice
Pineapple Juice
Orange Juice
3 cinnamon sticks and 1 tsp. cloves
My grandmother also added brown sugar to taste but I like it without.
Simmer for about 30 minutes to an hour and serve piping hot in a Christmas mug!

For the Orange bread I purchase the Krusteaz Mix

4. Festive Christmas Fun!
During Christmas, we bake. We love to make all sorts of fun treats and I try to have a delicious dessert every night as we watch a Christmas movie. One of my favorite things to do I bake Christmas cookies and decorate. This year I am going to try this cute 3D cookie kit. I'll take pics and let you know how it turned out.

5. Last but not least is Festive Serving.

I love how this time of year makes us so grateful for what we have and turns our hearts to those who have not. Please listen to this. It is one of my favorites. "In the end, only kindness matters."

Such a beautiful message and reminder to us the though we have small hands we can use them to help others. We can be the hands and feet of Jesus and give a cup of water in the name of Christ to share His love during the most blessed time of year. Whether it is buying a hungry person a meal, sponsoring a child through Compassion, Giving a Christmas box through Operation Christmas Child or participating in Angel Tree, loving your neighbor by baking them cookies, giving a fresh batch of fudge to your UPS driver. Any little away you can show appreciation and kindness is a way you can reflect the love of Christ.

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Teaching Children Their Identity in Christ and Why it is Important

My third child had a birthday last week. She is now 9. I am so thankful for this sweet child, she is a gift that I prayed for. We were not sure we would have more than two children but I had a deep desire in me for more and I began praying that, if the Lord was willing, He would make it happen.

I see something in her eyes that has my momma heart concerned. As the third child I feel she may feel insignificant and not as important. It is IMPERATIVE to me that her identity is firmly rooted in Christ. She is a very strong young lady and I believe that if I can help her thought patterns to develop in a heathy way, she can overcome so many of the obstacles I have faced in my thought life.

We are a homeschooling family and I like to start out our days with a fresh baked breakfast and a devotion along with a plan for their schooling for the day. I feel very lead to start a morning study this week that will root my children in their identity in Christ. This study will be based on the book by Neil Anderson, Who I Am In Christ. I was blessed to hear Neil speak at a local church about 18 years ago and I have read several of his books. I will be keeping our morning time simple and using only the Scripture cards and the image below. I plan to play this song for my children as I am setting the table w Cranberry Orange bread that is baking right now along w a steaming mug of homemade wassail.

The beginning of our study will be simply stating what is written below and explaining to them why it is so important to me that they are firmly rooted in Christ. I have often attached my identity to many things other than who I am in Christ. I am Nathan's wife, I am Emma's mom, I am a CC Director, I am a Sunday School teacher... you get what I am saying right? All of those things are true and good but that does not define me. What others think of me does not define me either. The most important thing about me is not what others say about me or what they think or feel about me. The only thing that is true about me is what God says about me. God says that in Christ I am...

This is what I want my children to cling to. When the world tries to tell them who to be (because the world WILL try to fit them into a mold), I want these words to echo in their mind. When a bully is picking on them, when they get in a fight with a friend, when they are embarrassed about something and even in the middle of their sin, I want them to remember these important things about who they REALLY are!

Who I am In Christ Scripture CardsI found this neat blog with free printable Scripture cards! I plan to cut these out and place them around the house so my children can look at these when they are brushing their teeth, washing their hands, unstacking the dishwasher, whatever their daily task is. I want the Words of God to be ever before them . We will also pick a Scripture to write and memorize like we are doing every week.

If we understand who we are in Christ, we will not listen to the lies of the enemy who tries to distract us and get us to deviate from the path the Lord has prepared for us. We will not fulfill our true purpose. If we can be taught to believe that our worth lies in something that is tangible then we are building our lives on shifting sand and we will fall when the storms of life come. If we can build our confidence and identity in Christ then we will NOT be shaken and WILL stand firm on the Rock when the wind and the waves of life try to beat us down.

I want all of my children to be strong and to have the quiet confidence and joyful purpose that I wrote about in this post. I strongly desire that they know exactly who they are and that they were created for a purpose. So often I see young people today searching for an identity. It could be what they watch, what they say, how they dress. They want to buy a certain pair of shoes because their best friend has a pair (aren't we all like that). But i want them to bust out of that mold. It is crucial that they grasp this now because by the time they are off to college it will be too late to teach them to go their own way, to stand up for what is right and to draw their identity from their Creator.

I am confident that He who began a good work in my children will carry it on through completion until the day of Christ. I am willing and happy to do my part and teach them diligently. I know that the Word of Christ is eternal and will not return void.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you had a great week!

My husband is coming home today!! I mentioned in the post yesterday how I was having a down day. It was because Nathan was on a business trip. Nothing like a good work trip to make you realize how much you need your man. Don't get me wrong, we were fine and I am happy with the way I can hold the fort down but there was just a little sadness in all of us. He completes us and we are so EXCITED to see him!

It was my sweet daughter, Brookie’s birthday 🎂

Poor little Brookie. It was a hard day for her without her daddy but we had plenty of visitors and birthday fun. We went to see Frozen II w a group of friends and then came home for cupcakes. One of her little friends who is also homeschooled was able to stay the night w us as well so that made it extra fun. We will have another cake tonight so daddy can sing her happy birthday as well.

2 Fave is Spanx.

I have just discovered these and I see what all the raving is about. Believe the hype, y'all. These are SO worth every penny and for some reason the pair below are on sale for under $15. I ordered them and have already worn them twice.

🎄4.Our Christmas Tree 🎄

We ended up going with a 10 ft tree. I still think 12 would have been fine...next time ;) Ordered this one.

We already set it up so we can decorate w Daddy tonight.

We added the flocking last night. It was different for us to not have our tree up the day after Thanksgiving but the tree didn't get here until Wednesday. Next year we will be able to revert back to our old tradition. For this year it's Elf, Hot Chocolate and Candy Canes and Christmas fun w Daddy tonight!

5. Last is this cozy and LARGE blanket.

This blanket fits a twin bed so it is the perfect throw for our home. My husband is 6 ft 3 so a normal throw is usually too short for him but this one is just right! Super thick, fluffy and cozy. Also under $26. Im giving a few of these as gifts this year :)

Quiet Confidence and a Joyful Purpose

I have been learning an abundant amount about being a strong and purposeful woman whose confidence and identity are rooted in Christ.

A few takeaways from my findings are below...

Who you are is not dependant on what others think. People will think what they will and it is not your job to try and change their minds. It IS your job to keep doing the thing you are purposed to do every day and seek the approval of God, not men. Being concerned only with what God thinks can be a very liberating way of living. You are approved and immensely loved by your Savior. When you are lovingly responding to his acceptance of you, you are deepening that fellowship and furthering His Kingdom and your purpose in life. To know Him and make Him known.

If I am working hard every day and doing what I feel called to do, then I can feel good about myself. Deep down, we all know what we are supposed to be doing on a daily basis. When you avoid that responsibility it causes anxiety and depression. We were created to do good works as stated in Ephesians 2:10,
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
It is not a requirement for love or salvation but you will be most fulfilled when you are living out your daily life full of good, hard work. I'm much happier at the end of the day and can lay my head on my pillow feeling satisfied when I know I worked my tail off that day.
The Proverbs 31 woman was a hard worker, she was a leader and she was a helper.

That being said, I rest in knowing that I have the approval of God no matter WHAT I am doing. I am loved and cherished and I can rest in God's grace. Oh, what a feeling of comfort and joy. I know I have the love and favor of the Lord at all times. I can walk around my daily paths knowing that I am delighting in God and He in me. It gives me such a feeling of peace.

Know where your true identity lies. It's not your husband, your children, your friends, your job, your home, your money, your looks. Your true identity is in Christ. You are a child of God. It is only when you realize this that you can fulfill your true calling and purpose. God has a plan for you according to Jeremiah 29:11. He has a purpose for your life and you must remain in fellowship w Him in order to determine what that purpose is. If you are not, then you will be susceptible to other people's opinions and tossed to and fro w the waves of this world. You will look to others and try to fit yourself in someone else's mold insteasd of blossoming into the what the Lord has called you to be. Do not let others take possession of your life and determine what you should be doing. You have been given a unique calling. Submit yourself to God and you will fulfill your purpose through Christ's strength and not your own.

When all else fails in life, serve. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, look for ways to bless others. Look for ways to be kind. If you are at a social event and just not feeling it, get up, clear the table, help take out the trash, wipe down counters, do the dishes...something! anything. Ask to help. If you are having a hard time in your daily life, if you are feeling down, look for ways to serve someone else. You will NEVER regret being kind. I am actually having a down couple of days. I'll explain more tomorrow but I have a plan for tonight. I have a sweet friend who is fighting the good fight but is just in a very busy season right now. I am doing a simple act of taking her and her family dinner this evening. It will be fun to get together a care package for her and her little family and it will bless both of us. Not at all trying to toot my own horn here but I am trying to give an example of service in a time when I am finding happiness a struggle to grasp. It is also a good example for the children.

Secret # 1:

Brine your Turkey

Adoring Family Brine Recipe

1 Gallon Vegetable Stock

1 Cup salt

1/2 Cup Brown Sugar

2 Tbsp.Sage

1 Tbsp. RoseMaria Blend from Dean Jacob's

1 Tbsp. Black Peppercorns

Bring to a boil and then cool.

Remove anything in the turkey cavity such a giblets and neck. Submerge turkey in the brine and add one gallon of heavily iced water. Let Turkey marinate in the brine for 6-8 hours.

I love this Good Eats episode which is hilariously dated with the mention of a pager and a Teen Magazine (Pinterest and VSCO have taken the place of the TEEN mag) but I LOVE the information presented and the science behind WHY a brine is crucial to a moist turkey.

I've mentioned how we love Alton Brown in this post back in 2015. I was binge watching Good Eats during this time and I am excited that there are new episodes out. I enjoy Alton's recipes and explanation as to why his cooking methods work the way they do.

I have brined my turkey every year except one and let me tell you, I can tell a tremendous difference. So much so that I will ALWAYS brine my turkey!!! Try it. You won't be disappointed.

Secret # 2

Slow Roast Your Turkey

I roast my turkey for 1 hour at 350 (this brings the turkey up to a safe temp) and then turn the heat down to 200 and roast for one hour per pound of Turkey. It's important that you make a foil tent in order to keep the moisture in your turkey and this will baste your turkey automatically. Takes all the work out of making a turkey! To make a foil tent, simply take two long pieces of foil and place together, fold the tops together so you can open and have one very large piece of foil. place over your turkey and make sure you fold all the foil over your pan so the turkey is completely enclosed.

Now, I have heard people all over the internet saying this is not a safe way to cook a turkey, that slow and low allows bacteria a chance to breed. The salt in the brine of the turkey prevents this as well as roasting for one hour at 350. FoodSafety.Gov says the safe internal temp for cooking poultry is 160 so I think we are more than covered. I have slow cooked my turkey like this for 13 years and never had anything but rave reviews. I did want to put this out there so you know this is my recipe and you are using this at your own disclosure.

So that's it guys, two simple things you can do to make cooking your turkey easy yet exceptionally moist and flavorful.

My dad says this turkey is the BEST he has ever had and he is definitely a tough critic.

🧼 5 Friday Favorites 🧼 Cleaning Edition 🧼

Hello friends, I hope everyone had a wonderful week! We have enjoyed our company from Korea along with two community days of school. Today I plan to spend a full day cleaning and organizing my home. Next week I will share all of the fun organizing tools I’m using but this week I’m sharing my favorite household cleaning products. These are products produce amazing results and smell amazing while just making it fun to clean. I actually look forward to my quiet cleaning time.

First up, we have the Caldrea cleaning products. Their soaps, countertop spray, room spray, and dish soap are my absolute favorite. They are highly fragranced Yet still considered to be “clean” cleaning products meaning no harsh chemicals. They are definitely more of a luxury but I feel that if it’s going to help me do something that is honoring to my husband, a blessing to my children and fulfilling to me, I am happy to spend a few extra dollars on these products while skipping other items such as a fancy coffee.

The Orange Glo wood cleaner and conditioner is another favorite to clean my wood items with. I love the shine it produces and the beautiful orange fragrance that is subtle yet refreshing. Occasionally, I will clean my cabinets with this but most often my piano, side table in the hall, dining table and night stands.

This stainless steel cleaner is 100% the BEST! It is the only one I have found that actually cleans my appliances and doesn't leave a streak mess(does anyone else have a fridge that gets quite dirty after just two or three days?). This cleaner cleans the dirt but doesn’t like a streaky finish like all of the other stainless steel cleaners I’ve tried. You are left with clean appliances and a beautiful shine

Next up is my MUST HAVE cleaning product for those of us living in areas with hard water. This is not as chemically friendly but sometimes you need something with a little extra boost of you want to clean the hard water stains. This Lime A Way cleaner is a miracle worker. I clean around my faucets with this cleaner because it is a gel and sits nicely in place long enough to descale the lime. I also clean the toilets of course but any place that has hard water buildup will benefit from this cleaner. I do have multiple bottles on hand and designate one for the toilets and another for the sinks etc...I’ve recently discovered these fresh gel rings that you just stamp inside your toilet bowl. They do a great job and keeping the line down and the toilet fresh and clean.

These stiffer wet pads are my favorite for daily cleaning. I usually deep clean with the O Cedar mop below and I find that one very easy to use but for our multiple quick mops through the week I prefer to just pop on of these in my swifter sweeper. This is the best price I’ve found on the swifter pads. The Lavender Vanilla is my all time favorite. Again, a lovely smell makes cleaning an enjoyable experience for me.

Mothering With Grace

When I was a new mom I read every book and article I could find on mothering.

I asked the Lord for wisdom. James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." God is faithful to fulfill His promises. He has always provided women with beautiful souls to mentor me. I walked through Bible studies with them and learned how to "do life" as they did. I prayed for a heart like theirs. Of course the beauty I saw in them was always Christ and they will be the first to tell you that.

I feel a sense of urgency now that my children are getting older. I need to get it right! I feel like the first part of motherhood has been learning, a sort of trial and error period but now is the time for me to implement the knowledge I have acquired. No more mess ups. No "do overs". This is it. I want to leave a legacy. What do I want them to remember about their childhood? About their momma and daddy? Their home?

I was seeking answers one day when I felt the urge write out what I thought a good mother looked like. What kind of mom I wanted to be. What I thought I should be doing. I am keeping my list private but I do encourage you to write out your own list. Begin with the end in mind. What do you want your children to look back on in their life. What do you want to have instilled in your children when they are ready to move onto their own families? What memories do you want lingering in their minds? What Truths? What Habits?

Sometimes I am inspired by my list and other times discouraged. It is something I strive for but I have not mastered this list. It is a goal, a reminder. I like to occasionally glance at it but there are times I know I fall short.

This is where grace and simplicity come in.

What are the most important things I need to do as a mom?

Teach them diligently.

Model a love for Christ.

Take care of their physical needs.

Love them and love their daddy.

Draw my strength for all of this from The Lord.

Motherhood (life in general) is not about a list of dos and don'ts. It is not about legalism or comparison. It us about doing what you know is right every day. It's about being faithful in the little things and drawing upon the Lord's strength when you are too weary to do it on your own. It is about creating a life of delight and goodness for your family in the best way you know how.

In the end I know that what makes a good momma is emptying myself of me and the distractions and false notions that I am failing. It is the filling up of God's goodness, strength, joy, peace and hope. I want my children to look back and see a momma who loved Jesus with all her heart, poured everything she had into taking care of them the best way she knew how, made their home a safe haven while creating a few fun memories along the way.

What I think makes a good momma has grown in ways and shrunk in others. I pray The Lord will enable me to be the mother He has called me to be consistently. God has created each of us to be the unique mom our children needs. I hope this list inspired you to seek out what you would write on you own list. If you do come up with your own, I would love to see it. Do remember that God's grace is enough for you and your children. He will equip you with what you need for what He called you to do. If you have children, you are called to motherhood and it is God who works in you in order to fulfill His good purpose.

Commit thy ways to The Lord and He will establish thy plans.

My absolute FAVORITE candle.

As soon as I got this candle in, I lit it and it's fragrance filled the entire room. I loved it so much I ordered two more! I find that if I burn cinnamon or vanilla holiday scents I just want to eat more sweets alllll day. This fragrance is a beautiful smell that evokes joyful memories for me. It's a warm, soft woodsy scent and is my absolute favorite.

Drawer Organizers

I have been inspired by Youtube videos I have seen recently on organizing my girls' clothing. A lot of channels suggested these types of organizers. I posted about these in my my IG stories. This has been the best price for the most organizers in one package deal and let me tell you, they are a GAME changer if you have little ones!

My daughter loves to get herself dressed most mornings and she would throw around all her clothes looking for the right shirt. I was constantly reorganizing and it has been a frustrating ordeal. With these, she can see exactly where her shirt is and grab the one she is looking for without messing up her entire drawer. SO happy!!!

The CUTEST Comfy Sweater

The quality of this sweater is AMAZING for the price. I'm ordering it in black. It is a bit of an oversized fit so I'm sizing down for the black one but I still like the gray.I love the fitted bottom and sleeve cuffs but the slouchy collar and arms are what make this sweater so appealing to me. It is the perfect cozy look that will be comfortable yet still dressy enough to run errands in. The darker gray is gorgeous for an everyday look but won't show stains and baking messes.

Korean Dumpling Soup

We have relatives here from Korea. It is always a fun and educational time. We made Mandu Guk (Korean Dumpling Soup). I will post the recipe soon because it was quick and easy but absolutely AMAZING! So soothing and delicous. Can't wait to share it with you!
